Residential electronic gate systems have greatly advanced with the growth of communications technologies connected to the internet, cell phones, and computers. These electronic systems are continually improving as high-technology sensors and communications become more advanced. Here are a few of the options and functions that you can have installed on an electronic gate at your residence.
Motion Detector
A motion detector on an electronic gate system can be installed to detect movement near the gate. When activated, the motion detector will alert the homeowner that someone is present at the gate. The motion detector can also automatically switch on one or more lights at that gate to inform the person at the gate that they are being monitored.
Audible Alarm System
Another security feature that can be installed on an automated gate system is an audible alarm that sounds whenever a person touches the automated gate or attempts to climb over it. This alarm can sound at the gate to alert the person that they have been detected or it can be silent at the gate and alert the homeowner.
Intercom System
Another security item that you can have installed on an electronic gate system is an intercom communication system. This two-way intercom system allows a person at the gate to speak to the homeowner in the residence to ask for access through the electronic gate. The homeowner can speak to this person and decide whether or not to open the gate.
Video Camera
For additional security, a video camera can be installed at an automated gate. This video camera can work in conjunction with a motion detector and automatically record video whenever the motion detector is activated. Video cameras can also be manually triggered to record movement at the gate by the homeowner. A video camera system can also incorporate infrared technology so that someone at the electronic gate cannot be alerted that they are being recorded.
Ground Sensors
Electronic sensors are buried underground in front of an electronic gate to detect someone walking, running, or crawling on the ground toward the gate. When activated, these ground sensors work in conjunction with a motion detector and alarm system to trigger lights and an audible alarm when someone is walking within 10 feet of the electronic gate.
Telephone Control System
An electronic security system on your automated gate can also be linked to a cell phone. This capability can allow the homeowner to open and close the electronic gate through an application on a cellphone and speak directly to the person seeking access.
Electronic Gate Design
Electronic gates are available in many materials, designs, and finishes including wood, steel, and other materials. A control unit, motor, and opening and closing hardware for an electronic gate must be waterproof and wind resistant and able to operate flawlessly in extreme weather.
